The University of Mississippi Medical Center's Division of Medical Genetics provides comprehensive medical care and laboratory testing for individuals and families affected by inherited conditions. Services available include diagnosis and management of inherited conditions, nutritional management of metabolic disorders, chromosome analysis, biochemical and DNA diagnostic testing, and pre-symptomatic and carrier testing for relatives of patients. Both children and adults may be seen, and outreach clinics throughout Mississippi are staffed in cooperation with the Department of Health.

The clinic specializes in the evaluation and management of children and adults with known or suspected inherited conditions. Besides the general genetics clinic the section operates specialty clinics devoted to Marfan syndrome, hemochromatosis, metabolic disorders , and a Gaucher disease treatment center. Other UMC clinics devoted to inherited conditions include those for:

cystic fibrosis
lipid disorders
breast and ovarian cancer
colon cancer
inherited eye disorders including retinitis pigmentosa
inherited neurologic conditions
prenatal diagnosis.
